Literary Witchcraft: Crafting Spells & Rituals for Subversive Narratives -with Allison Ellis & Amy Bowers

Intermediate | The witch archetype abounds in literature. From self-identifying mythical witches to self-reliant female protagonists in the works of Ariel Gore, Maryse Condé, Helen Oyeyemi, and others, witches serve as subversive shapeshifting badasses, mirroring ideas around feminism, domesticity, power, and social change. We’ll analyze across the canon while building our own definitions. Expect to delve deep into the art and craft of creating witchy narratives and come away with at least two new stories, essays, or longer scenes.

Field Trips & Portals: Finding Writing Inspiration in the Everyday - with Allison Ellis & Amy Bowers

All Levels | We dream of productive writing sessions but the reality is that tasks often overshadow. What if you could gather your next literary masterpiece in a daily routine? In this generative class, we will (re)learn to open our eyes, go on local outings (groceries, parks, thrift stores, our own closets) and build a toolkit that turns the messy world into a dreamy writing office. Texts discussed: Lily Hoang, Ross Gay, Joy Harjo, Camille Dungy, Sarah Manguso, Miranda July, and others.
